Now in its 34th year, the 2014 Annual Art Exhibition and Auction at the San Jose Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) provides unique opportunities for art enthusiasts and collectors to view and purchase artwork by rising stars and celebrated artists whose work reflects the scope of the artworld’s vibrant and eclectic styles and interests.

The 2014 Auction Exhibition, which runs from September 27th to October 25th, will feature works by contemporary artists from throughout the country and around the world. The breadth of this curatorial shift reflects the ICA’s growing commitment to include international art and artists in the exhibition program. Held in a lively gallery setting, Silent and Live Auction guests can bid on a wide range of work including paintings, photography, works on paper, sculpture, mixed media and installation pieces. All proceeds fund the ICA’s innovative exhibitions and educational programming.

“The ICA’s auction exhibition is a barometer of what’s going on in the contemporary visual art scene throughout the state and well beyond our borders,” explains ICA Executive Director Cathy Kimball. Among the donated works, this year’s auction will include exceptional works from nationally and internationally acclaimed artists including Val Britton, Enrique Chagoya, Bruce Connor, Ligorano/Reese, Frank Lobdell, Chris McCaw, Manuel Neri and Gustavo Ramos Rivera. The ICA is also very excited to welcome new artists to the auction gallery for the first time, including Charlotta Hauksdottir, Victoria Mara Heilweil, Meghann Riepenhoff and Barcelona-based photographer Max de Esteban.

The Silent Auction will be held on Saturday, October 11th. This highly popular event features an eclectic mix of works in a variety of mediums that will excite novice and long-time art collectors and enthusiasts alike. The first auction lot closes at 7:15 pm and the last auction lot closes at 8:00 pm. Guests are invited to mix and mingle in the gallery until 10pm. Admission is free. A cash bar will be provided and light cocktail fare will be served.

The Live Auction gala, one of the Bay Area's most anticipated cultural events of the year, takes place on Saturday, October 25th. Doors open at 6pm and the auction begins promptly at 7pm. Complimentary champagne, wine, heavy hors d’oeuvres and desserts will be served. Admission to the Live Auction – always a sellout event -- is reserved for ticket holders.

For the third consecutive year, the ICA is offering visitors a free audio tour of the auction exhibition. The ICA introduced the use of mobile technologies in the auction galleries to offer visitors a more engaging and interactive experience. The popular self-guided audio tour, accessible to visitors through their mobile phones, features recordings by the exhibiting artists, giving visitors insight into the works on view and for sale.
